Clearview App Reviews

Solid eBook Reader for OS X/macOS

Clearview is a great eReader - and has a nice set of options that can be tweaked in order to provide a smoother/more comfortable reading experience (changing the font diesplayed by an eBook, its size and line spacing, etc.) I also love that I can get a scrolling view on the Mac through Clearview (similar to what iBooks provides on iOS), something that is surprisingly and unfortunately difficult to find in an eBook reader for the Mac. Everything is solidly done, and I’ve had no issues so far, but I do have a feature request (if I may): having the option to adjust the left/right/top/bottom margins would be awesome! I often read programming eBooks in Clearview and have to get creative with my window positioning on the Mac to ensure that lines of code complete rather than wrap-around. Having that option would be awesome - otherwise, really great work!

Decent ebook reader with a serious memory problem

I use this app to read technical books and have to skip from page to page looking for information. When scrolling through a book in this manner, the computer memory that is consumed by Clearview as reported in the OS X Activity Monitor quickly soars into the gigabytes - even though the total size of the book is 15 or 20 megabytes. I have emailed Clearview support regarding this but after a month have not received any response whatsoever. Poor programming and non-existent support.

Search Is Broke

Great program but the search index is completely broken. When I try to reindex it, the program automatically crashes. Please fix? I dont want to reinstall the program and lose all the collections ive made

Feature request

Please add a "Line height” option to the “Opening for the first time” section.

Programm opens no ePubs and chm. :(

Awesome and indispensable!

This is one of the most useful, promising, and well-crafted apps I know! It works like a charm, offers great functionality, and looks fantastic. And, most importantly: The developer is extremely responsive regarding suggestions for improvement or additional features. I have never met an app developer so open to input and so quick to reply to one’s ideas. Absolutely great!

Great book reader for OSX

I’m a proud bookworm and using it for a almost a year now. The PDF and ePub support is very good and i had no problems with any of my books. The only feature i miss is the DJVU support, this would make me happier with Clearview.

Excellent eBook Reader

This app combines many of the features you would like to see in a good eBook reader: 1. Drag and drop loading of eBook files (Ive tried the ePub format; others are possible). 2. Can handle multiple files and shows you a library view of all your books. 3. Easy viewing screen. 4. Remembers where you last read; ability to bookmark other locations. 5. Ability to highlight and otherwise mark up your book. 6. Seems to work without glitches. Worth spending the $ to get the features youd like.

Outstanding

I am very impressed with its fuctionallity and ease of use! This app has given me something I spent a long time looking for. A program on my computer where I can read all my ebooks no matter the format I have them in. Prior to this I had to use three readers. One for Kobo, one for epub and one for pdfs. The only things I had to do was to deDRM the Kobo books and rename all the files with the author first in order for them to display organised by author. My only quible with the program is that I wish you could set the display and view settings and hve them become the defaults instead of haveing to do it each time you open the program or open an individual book, as the defaults are not what I would choose. If you are looking for a reader I strongly recomend this one.

Great app

It is amazing to find one app that is capable of opening all popular kind of e books. Opening books in differerent tabs makes it easy to extract information for research work. Amazing work.

Kept on crashing,

Eversince I bought this app, it just kept on crashing, no matter what, reopening, restarting, none of these works.

The Best!

Simple, practical, easy to use - and works like a charm! Definitely worth the investment!

Issues since update

In general I’ve found Clearview to be the best eBook reader on the market. It’s well laid-out, simple to use, supports a whole host of file formats, and doesn’t require an overhaul of file/folder structures and names like other eBook readers. However, since the El Capitan update, I’ve found the program to lag heavily and crash constantly when performing simple operations like opening folders to view books contained inside them. It’s a great program, but has been rendered basically unusable since the update. Hopefully a fix is on the way.

Keeps crashing on El Capitan

Since upgrading to El Capitan, the app crashes a lot, rendering the app useless. For example, everytime I close a tab the app crashes and I have to restart it in order to continue reading. Very disappointed with the lack of bug fixes.

Generally is useful, but please add back and forward page buttons or arrows.it will be more useful such to do.

Good app

Good app. But it has a few bugs: Cant read epub with size over 30MB Cant sort by field in List and Detail view Please fix.

Just okay app but I did not uninstall Adobe.

Pros: fast rendering and nice full screen mode. Adobe sucks. Books organisation. Tabs. Cons: Navigation and toolbars. I feel it more convenient in Adobe. Lack of feature: Many manuals (car repair ones) are distributed as many PDF files. Each PDF file corresponds to the particular section or even single page. All if them are kept in a directory structure and linked to each other. You navigate from file to file by clicking links. Clearview does not open another file by link. Adode does. Add this feature and I will re-rate the app. You can contact me for thorough description by e-mail (nDOOTloshchininATTTgmailDOOTcom).

1.7.5 crashes

Dont no why but app crashes on the start. Its very sad cause it was very nice and useful app for different ebook formats. Hope devs will fix it.

No real fb2 support in Version 1.7.5

I am really disappointed and want my money back.

Just got app and used immediately

I wanted to read all of the Epubs I create for various sites because Im a self pubisher and man, this program is SO easy to use. I just drag the books to it and they open and read perfectly so I know when I upload that everything will look good on the various sites.
