Great ebook reader for the MAC

It’s a great ebook reader, however there are features that prevent it from being epic. The main one in my opinion is the lacking ability to sync notes / annotations (via iCloud?) to other devices. Even would be good if you could export the settings to a specific directory and have those synced via DropBox or Box, etc.

Much better now..finally working correctly

much better now, its working again. :-) As for as I can tell, this is the only desktop epub reader that actually has a clue about how scholars work with an epub. He needs to update the demo version so I can help promote it to my scholar friends. An update. I recently upgraded to 10.11. Apple has removed the ability to install non-iBook store epubs and allow them to be synced to back up. This is the Amazon model as well. So, this is the only tool I can use to do my scholarship. If I had the money, I would give the developer 1k dollars for continuing to develop of this wonderful app.

Great eReader!

This is a great eReader, which can open both PDF and EPUB, with decent annotation functions and tabs for each books. I really like the background color function for EPUB and text PDF, it will be better if it works as iBooks (render images) and can be applied to scanned PDF. I would like to see improvement on reading experience, and DJVU support. If possible, a iOS version. Hope more people like it and support the developer to make it the best eReader on Mac!

Functional but sloppy and buggy

Sometimes silently fails to open certain files, which then stops the program from opening any other files (again, silently, with no error message or indication of a problem). Navigating through an ePub in the sidebar and then closing the sidebar causes the text layout to deform until you jump to another point in the text. Clicking a link in an ePub and then clicking the back button does not navigate you to where you came from, but back to the start of the section or XHTML file that the link falls under. Very frustrating. Equivalent to having your bookmark fall out. I noticed all of this in a single evening of using this program — there’s no excuse for these flaws in basic functionality and lack of attention to detail.

Great reader for the Mac

This is a great reader for the Mac as it handles ePub, PDF, and MOBI formats - all less DRM, and best of all, reads them from where YOU choose to put them and without altering their format - like a certain native eBook reader on the Mac does. You have the right to read your eBooks where YOU want to; Clearview assists with that by not trying to OWN or CONTROL your media. Aside from that it is a nice reader with some good features and sells for a fair price. I’ve used it since I first saw it on the App Store.

Great app!

I am happy the money spent on this app. It gets my reading materials more organized. It also supports exporting notes. Just like it so much.

PLEASE GIVE US CUSTOM EBOOK BACKGROUNDS AND TEXT

Quality ereaders for the Mac are slim to none. iBooks is sufficient, but barely. Nook and Kindle (for the Mac) are better then nothing but lacking much in polish and options. (Nook for the iPad is good). Then there is Clearview, which looks like the developers actually care about a quality ereader. Best features: 1) In addition to page to page scrolling, Clearview offers the option of scrolling as you would a very long webpage. Its more fluid/natural by helping one keep his/her place on the page. 2) Underlining in addition to highlighting. Highlighting is ok in many situations, but I find underlining the best way to go because it is subtle yet clearly distinguishes the chosen text. 3) Clearview handles pdf files nicely, but the real plus is that one can apply a black background. For a pdf that is great! Whats needed: Clearview offers three themes: 1) black on white and 2) white on black (both functional but nothing exceptional). 3) A sepia theme that is ok. But what Clearview needs to remain on top is the ability for the user to color the text (as BookReader does). User chosen color backgrounds would also be excellent. Is Clearview the best ereader for the Mac? Yes, although the competition is weak. None the less, Clearview is the ereader to acquire and the price is more than reasonable.

Times Change

Developers tend to drop out after a time, no longer improving their software. Clearview is still OK, but it has lost its position as the premier e-book reader for the Mac. I have moved on to a different reader which suits my personal needs better. PREVIOUS ASSESSMENT FROM 2014: There is no better e-book reader for the Mac than Clearview. It handles a variety of formats well; it provides a number of reading typefaces; it has a workable library system; it provides a means to update a book; the presentation is readable; the interface provides both paging and scrolling, one and two page formats; and it doesnt crash. The developer is responsive, too. Its worth the price.

Excellent Epub Reader

Clearview works really great for me. I mostly read DRM-free epubs, and Clearview works well and formats them attractively. I tried other epub readers in the App Store and this was the best one for me.
